Welcome you silly little thing. I don't know what to say so I guess you'll just have to stalk my blog and decide for yourself whether your interests match mine...
After studying EU law for almost a year I have come to understand what a disgraceful organisation the EU really is - all about profit and nothing about equality and fairness. However, June 2016, when no major attempt has been made to discuss reforms or changes for the better, voting to remain seems like the best option for me. Why not try to change and fix what’s broken, before we abandon ship? Sure, if we remain and fail to succeed in reforming and re shaping this disgusting institution, then I believe it’s time to back out and leave the rest of Europe to it, but that time is not now. Not 2016. I think we’ve got a few years left in us yet.
Yes. At least like… let the older generation die off first so that we don’t have to live in the country which they destroyed for us… in the nicest way possible
Remember to register to vote for the EU referenfum.
We live on an island that farms, manufactures and mines nothing; everything we use and eat comes from overseas. We have nothing to offer anyone if we decide to go at it alone.
A lot of my friends have shared this. Let’s debunk shit.
Leave 1) UK does not have EU laws forced upon it, the laws are agreed upon. Hence why we have Councils, Commissions and Parliments. 2) UK, especially NI gets a lot of its membership fee back in terms of rebates, investment funds and access to the market 3) UK has a special membership status in the EU and has for a long time, it has special deals with ROI 4) Making a ‘British Bill of Rights’ versus the ‘European Convention of Human Rights’ is not an issue related to the EU. The Court comes about by being a member of the Council of Europe, although closely linked they are separate things. 5) The UK is one the largest spenders of intentional aid. That budget decision came from both the Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Exchequer. 6) UK fisheries are protected by the EU from over fishing because corporate greed would rather see no fish in our seas to satisfy us now than think about consequences of a lifeless ocean. 7) The NHS is being privatised by the Conservative Party, not the EU. TTIP will likely be veto’d from within the EU, it’ll be easier to pass in Britain if we leave. 8) UK has the ability to control immigration and boarders, yes the EU has a fundamental freedom of free movement. But our boarders come down to a separate agreement between ROI, GB and NI it’s called 'The Belfast Agreement’ but is more commonly known as Good Friday. You’ve maybe heard of it. 9) Common Agriculture Policy actually give an awful lot of money the UK, it actually encouraged UK farms to over produce food because it paid them so well. 10) EU courts and laws over-writing UK laws is a good thing. Who watches the watchers. The CJEU has ruled that the UK could not opt-out of the working time directive which protects you from the greed of your employer. 11) EU regulation does not 'hamper’ small businesses, it opens them up to compete in 27 other economies. This allows them to expand and grow. Small businesses are hampered by large businesses which have money to lobby Government at all levels. 12) Leaving the EU won’t produce more jobs. You’ll find yourself working harder in worse conditions most likely. Leaving the EU would produce a higher wage, your wage has been decreasing for years and the rate of inflation has nothing to do with the Union. 13) CAP yes has inadvertently produced higher food costs, but this can be reformed. But markets rarely see prices go down, the Labour Party once reduced VAT to help stimulate the market and businesses didn’t reduce prices, they increased them pick up the VAT difference (taking the money the Government no longer did), increasing their profit. 14) Moving to a points based immigration system only benefits the rich and privileged. I value the fact that someone can move to the UK and improve their quality of life because they can’t be afford the same opportunities because of their socio-economic circumstances. 15) Since 1999, the Euro has been in circulation - the UK hasn’t adopted it in 17 years - 19 of the 28 member states use the Euro, so using the Euro isn’t a requirement. 16) Getting back your seat at the WTO isn’t exactly amazingly, the WTO is undemocratic, unelectable, unaccountable, does not make you safe and ignores national labour/trade rights. Same reason you think we should leave the EU. 17) UK steel industry collapsed primarily because of Chinese competition. Not the EU 18) Addressed in point 5 19) Britain can 'stop’ Turkey becoming a member. Every member state has to agree to a new member joining. France, Greece and Cyprus are currently vetoing Turkish membership. And Turkey is no where close to becoming a member, its secular constitution is being undermined by the Government. 20) Charging EU citizens international rates? We have huge benefits educationally from the EU. Because of the EU I can move the Germany (no visa), study for my Masters (for free) in english and then come back to the EU. The EU also sends millions to the UK each week to fund University research into STEM. 21) There isn’t an EU Army, the EU army will be veto’d. 22) There isn’t an EU federal police force, EU states share information in regards to terrorism and defence. They also have extradition agreements which make is easier to move people who flee across boarders. Handy if you’re the PSNI in NI and someone runs across the ROI where An Garda Síochána arrest them. 23) UK public services are most at risk from the UK government, nothing else.
Remain 1) Have you ever been to an airport, the cheap cigarettes are only available if you fly outside the EU. Your remain argument is better served as a leave.
I’m not saying the EU is perfect. Its not. But I believe our place is in Europe. I’m voting to #Remain
Okay so I NEED to talk about the Human Rights Declaration.
Britain had a HUGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE influence on this piece of
legislation from the very beginning, the rights that are featured in this are
actually very representative of UK culture – this is why it has actually been
so difficult to get other countries to ratify parts of the treaties. Therefore,
for us to now say that we need to create our own UK bill of rights is saying
that the rights WE created are being too forced upon us. Tories now want to
recreate the British Empire again and ignores all history of the formation of
rights in the first place. The 1948 Universal Declaration was actually created
as a result of the Holocaust to ensure that nothing like this would ever happen
again and that every human had a means to protection from harmful and degrading
treatment (I know, it hasn’t stopped anything really. Not the point). If the UK
also decided to leave this legislation we are also saying to other countries
that a value that we put together is no longer good enough for us – which may
also encourage OTHER COUNTRIES to reject the treaties. So. The way these
declarations work is that in an ideal world countries WORK TOGETHER to ensure
that EVERYONE is respecting the rights, protecting the rights, AND fulfilling everybody’s
rights. The more countries which have ratified THE SAME legislation, the better
this process works. Are you seeing where I’m going? If we leave, and this
encourages more countries to leave – THEN THE ENTIRE HUMAN RIGHTS SYSTEM IS
GETTING FUCKED OVER.
So please please please, for my own peace and harmony, vote to BRMAIN
If you are in the UK and you are eligible to vote in the EU referendum YOU HAVE TO REGISTER AND TURN UP TO VOTE
This referendum is so close that it will come down to voters turnout. Young people are the ones that are are more likely to want to stay in so if you want to stay in but then don’t vote, statistically we will end up leaving.
This is the most important referendum in Britain’s history for decades please vote if you’re eligible, this will affect our whole futures so vote or deal with the consequences of not voting and letting older generations decide our future
(Even if you’re not from Britain would you please signal boost for your British followers?)
HEY MY FELLOW 2 FOLLOWERS. ARE YOU BRITISH? then you could have the POTENTIAL TIE BREAKING VOTE of whether we LEAVE or STAY in the EU. I’m not even exaggerating, it’s this close.
The EU referendum is on the 23rd JUNE and here’s some scary stats the BBC decided to throw at me this morning:
“just over a third of 18- to 24-year-olds intend to or are certain to vote, compared with well over two thirds of the over-75s”mix that with “those under the age of 35 are roughly twice as likely to vote to stay in as those over the age of 55″
DO YOU SEE WHERE THIS IS HEADING? No? Then let me spell it out for you, Hamilton style:
We are outgunned Outmanned Outnumbered Outplanned
We are gonna get ourselves kicked out of the EU if you don’t get your arse down to the polling station and VOTE for us to stay on the 23rd June.
So, here I am, doing my best to convince you to VOTE STAY.
WHY SHOULD YOU CARE?
I get it. You’re apathetic. Politics is boring/corrupt/pointless, all the parties are the same, we’re screwed anyway etc etc. I FEEL YOU. Mate, do I feel you. But THIS referendum has NOTHING to do with political parties or alliances, even the muppets running this country are split. THIS is about the SINGLE QUESTION of if you want us to stay, or want us to leave.
And if you don’t vote for us to stay, then the older generation will most likely vote for us to leave.
SO WHY ARE WE HAVING A REFERENDUM?
The EU has been going pretty great considering it was all one giant experiment, and it’s been swimming along mostly A-OK for years, but then… the Tories got desperate. Last election, they promised a referendum to get some of the right-wing *cough*UKIP*cough* votes, so now, here we are, having a vote about the EU even though, WE HAVE NO FUCKING PROBLEM WITH THE EU.
BUT WHAT HAS THE EU EVER DONE FOR US?
Being a member of the EU means you can hop across borders as you please: you can study abroad, live abroad, and go on holiday abroad within the EU with much less hassle than if we were outside it.
But they are also responsible for a bunch of welfare laws that we take for granted:
👌👀👌👀👌👀👌👀👌👀 good shit go౦ԁ sHit👌 thats ✔ some good👌👌shit right👌👌there👌👌👌 right✔there ✔✔if i do ƽaү so my self 💯 i say so 💯 thats what im talking about right there right there (chorus: ʳᶦᵍʰᵗ ᵗʰᵉʳᵉ) mMMMMᎷМ💯 👌👌 👌НO0ОଠOOOOOОଠଠOoooᵒᵒᵒᵒᵒᵒᵒᵒᵒ👌 👌👌 👌 💯 👌 👀 👀 👀 👌👌Good shit
But seriously here’s some other things that you might not have realised were thanks to the EU:
At the minute it’s a great symbiotic system where we have plenty of freedom but also, plenty of support.
SO WHY DO PEOPLE WANNA BREXIT?
Because it sounds like a breakfast cereal and I’m guessing they’re hungry af. Admittedly, we have to pay a fee to be in the EU (but relatively, this is minimal) and it can also mean more “red tape”. But as far as I can tell these are all just very polite ways to say that the EU just have too much gosh darn ~power~ over us. URGH. First of all, this is not the British Empire, we’re allowed to have allies, and it’s a good thing that we have other nations keeping us in check. (And with the Tories destroying the country, you might find yourself hoping that the EU did have more power to keep us in check). Secondly, we’re already a special snowflake in the EU, and they grant us PLENTY of leeway, so it’s not as if they’ve got us by the tighty whiteys.
The Leave campaign are scapegoating refugees as to why we need to leave the EU which would be hilarious if I didn’t live in the middle of nowhere surrounded by white middle-class racist UKIP voters that are goddamn licking it up. (Cornwall. Don’t even.) They are using the recent “migrant crisis” to emphasise that as soon as someone becomes an EU member they can live anywhere in the EU, as in, all the EU countries that are nicer than we are and actually let people fleeing from their wartorn country stay, can therefore decide to move to the UK. But, yo, leaving the EU won’t stop immigration. And even more hilariously, our borders are actually more likely to be weaker if we leave the EU than stronger.
Putting aside the fact that apparently millions of people in our nation don’t give a fuck about refugees that are in part OUR GODDAMN FAULT and certainly if you’re a human being OUR GODDAMN CONCERN, the Leave campaign are apparently forgetting about OUR IMMIGRANTS.
As in:
2.2m British nationals that, if we leave the EU, are suddenly dumped into muddy water. Oh yeah, Leave campaign, I really see you caring about them.
I’ve honestly never seen such hypocrisy in my life.
Our economy is now so tied to the EU that it would be a fucking MESS if we left. It’s 57% of our trade. It’s 1 in 10 of our jobs. It could take us a decade just to untangle ourselves. And, lord knows, we’d never win Eurovision again.
TO SUMMARISE
On JUNE 23RD please vote to REMAIN IN THE EU. If you do nothing, it’s likely we’re gonna be outvoted by hypocritical racist UKIP-wankers and get our country in an even worse financial state.
The reason I am here BEGGING my 12 followers and 200 spambots to VOTE TO STAY is because the last time there was a referendum, I was a naive little undergrad, and I thought “this option is so obviously better, everyone’s going to vote for it” and HAHAHAHAHA DID THAT NOT HAPPEN. You may think you don’t need to vote, but YOU DO.
Governments are only as smart as the people informing them.
We need to give our idiotic government as close to an actual representation of our country’s opinion. That means we need to get our turnout percentage up to AT LEAST two-thirds like the over 75s so that the result of the referendum is an actual reflection of opinion.
This is the BIGGEST MOST IMPORTANT thing that this country has voted for since before we were born and will likely shape us as a country for many years to come. I’m proudly going to be voting to stay but whatever you want for us PLEASE PLEASE VOTE!!!!!
A few days ago my brain came up with this thing about how if we vote out of the EU we’re gonna have such a shitty time trying to defend the fact that were ‘not’ a racist country
